Vols & Fulmer Dismiss Running Back Lamarcus Coker

Sophomore tailback LaMarcus Coker has been dismissed from the University of Tennessee football team, Vols coach Phillip Fulmer said in a Friday afternoon release.
“As I’ve had a chance to further investigate and talk to others close to the situation, I have decided to dismiss LaMarcus from the team because he did not do what was asked of him,” Fulmer said in the release. “I want a positive environment for our athletes to learn and grow. This is what is right for the young men
on our team and for the program.
“As …

Vols Win in Over-Time against South Carolina

Before playing South Carolina, Phillip Fulmer talked to his Tennessee Volunteers about the grim reaper being at his door. A cartoon on the front page of the local newspaper on Saturday showed that scene.
“They didn`t know whether to laugh at first or not,” Fulmer said. “They finally broke up, and it just broke the ice for them.”
All those calling for a new coach at Tennessee will have to quiet down for a while. Fulmer has the Vols in position to play for a conference title again.
Daniel Lincoln kicked a game-tying …

Vols Dominated by Alabama

With a game-opening onside kick to get things rolling and a John Parker Wilson-to-DJ Hall connection that never stopped, Alabama picked a fine time for its best game of the season.
The Crimson Tide`s 41-17 victory over No. 20 Tennessee Saturday turned into a rollicking debut for coach Nick Saban in the intense border rivalry that had been dominated lately by the Volunteers.
Wilson passed for a career-high 363 yards and three touchdowns, Hall had a school-record 13 catches for 185 yards and the defense pitched a second-half shutout.
“This was the first …

Tennessee Defeats Georgia 35-14 in Knoxville

Tennessee coach Phil Fulmer doesn`t like people picking on his team — on or off the field.
Hours after a story in the local paper questioned the attitude and direction of struggling Tennessee, the Vols answered back with a decisive 35-14 victory over No. 12 Georgia. Arian Foster rushed for 98 yards and three scores, and the Tennessee defense never let Georgia get moving.
The 35 points were the most allowed by the Bulldogs this year, and the loss snapped their three-game winning streak at Neyland Stadium. It also was Georgia`s worst …

Tennessee Still Struggling but beat Arkansas St. 48-27

Erik Ainge threw for a career-high 334 yards and tied his top mark with four touchdowns in leading the Tennessee Volunteers to a commanding 48-27 win over the Arkansas State Indians in non-conference action from Neyland Stadium.
Ainge connected on 27-of-39 passing for the Volunteers (2-2) as they bounced back from a disappointing loss to Florida last weekend in Gainesville. LaMarcus Coker (101 yards) and Arian Foster (57 yards) both scored on the ground for the home team as well.
“I thought we played good,” Ainge noted after the game. “With the …

Time for a Coaching Change?

There is a very nice lady who calls me from time-to-time, a devout Tennessee fan. “I’m 82 years old, and I’ve been a Vols’ fan for 72 years,” she likes to say.
Obviously, if you’ve been a Vols’ fan for 72 years, you are one patient human being. You just don’t jump to conclusions.
This nice lady left me a voice message this past weekend after Florida abused Tennessee, 59-20, to fall to 1-2.
“What did you think of that mess?” she said. “Call me when you get a chance.”
I considered what I …
